what happens to a lunch deferred?
check out the raw, unbridled awesomeness i made for dinner last night:

those are marinated portobella caps, stuffed with a mixture of minced garlic, green peppers, scallions, and finely chopped spinach, then topped with a slice of tomato, caramelized onions, and melted cave-aged gouda. they were beyond AWESOME. and i made extras, so that i'd have another one for lunch today, and i totally FORGOT IT IN THE FRIDGE.

:( :( :(

this is a post about tigers
there is a weird little crawl space between the back of the fathead building and the garage. earlier this week, this turned up in it:

stephanie and i investigated and found out that mr. tygerbutt has a front side as well:

he looks kinda sad and mournful, doesn't he? who would have abandoned such a noble creature in such a dismal location? or are tiger habitats so threatened that they have to scavenge in the alleyways of chicago's north side?

to restore the great beast's honor, i present to you one of the most unique and creative and breathtakingly beautiful animations i've ever seen. it's called tyger, and it's by guillherme marcondes.

comics and sea shanties and booze
Tales from the Dim Unknown, a new literary magazine, is having a release party for its first ever issue TONIGHT, FRIDAY 5/19 at 7:30 PM at KATE THE GREAT book emporium, 5550 N. Broadway.

i have a few pages of comics in the issue.

also, my band will be playing the party. :)

also, there's free booze, i think.

squee. :D
"It's probably too early to say for sure, but so far Sarah (that's me!) seems like a new, unique voice in the world of small press comics, and another one of those is always a good thing in my book."

oh, blushes
Shortpants Press got a fantastic new writeup on the internet magazine Lost at Sea today! There's a review of Suckerpunch, and of both Shuteye books. Go check it out!

wave after wave of ninjas
my brother got hit by a car while riding his bike down western on thursday night. the asshole just sideswiped him and didn't even slow down. he came by sunday for band practice, and he looks beaten up but not horrible. he's got a shiner, a gash on his eyebrow and one on his arm, and various scrapes and bruises.

he's got a great sense of humor about it too. he makes up a different response for everyone who asks him "what happened." saturday it was "my sister said if i told anyone she'd just hit me harder" and sunday it was "ninjas. wave after wave of ninjas."

funnies!

ancient music

The weather this morning reminds me of a poem by the immortal ezra pound:

Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm.
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

it's trogdor's third birthday today! i didn't even know this when i put my trogdor teeshirt on this morning. maybe i'm psychic! maybe fathead should add a 900 number, for fortune telling and tarot readings. "what shirt should i wear today, madame sarah?" they will ask. and i will consult my crystal ball, or read my tea leaves, or cast runes with whatever's in my laundry hamper, and i wlll tell them which shirts they should wear. call today!

minna daisuki katamari damacy!

the cutest and most addictive thing in the world is we love katamari damacy, a game for playstation 2 that i bought my boyfriend for christmas. we'd both been playing a lot of it; my thumbs were sore from my trademark videogame console deathgrip, and i had started having dreams about the characters. i was forbidden to play for a few days, which was probably wise, but now the boyfriend informs me that the game is broken, perhaps from overuse, and even though i'm at work and wouldn't be able to play anyway, i'm still suddenly jonesing for the katamari. i downloaded some katamari wallpaper for my computer. i looked up the game trailers. checked out the fansites. i'm about 15 minutes away from ordering the game's soundtrack on iTunes or something, but still none of it really quite compares to playing the game.

i think i'm going through withdrawal. i'm going to start sweating and shaking soon, and in a trembling voice, i will hum the game's themesong.

na naaaa.... na na na na na naaaa na. kata mari damashii....

today's useless information
the word "thug" comes from an ancient hindu religious sect known as the "thuggee". they were worshippers of the goddess kali - specifically the destructive aspect of kali - and practiced ritualistic murder. they'd find a traveller and befriend him, accompany you on the road for days, sometimes weeks, and then when the omens were right, they'd whip out a yellow scarf and strangle you. then they'd steal all of your stuff, and bury you right there. they believed that every murder they committed prevented kali's return for 1,000 years. they were active in india from the mid-1200s until the 1830s, when british colonial forces stamped them out. according to the guinness book of world records, they're responsible for about 2,000,000 murders, meaning that they managed to prevent kali's return to the earth for another 2,000,000,000 years. give or take a few centuries, anyway.
