Applying for a bank loan

Applying for a bank loan is simpler than one would think. The basic principle is simple: you need to demonstrate to the bank that you can afford the loan. When the lender does some additional financial work, the paperwork can be a bit more tedious and that’s why some people also go for credit online such as the best emergency loans which are given to people with bad credit. Here are a few quick tricks to help with that.

Know Your Credit Score

While the information is all out there for free, most credit bureaus will send you your credit score once a year. If you do not have one, you can obtain one for free through Credit.com. If you are not a current member of any of the credit bureaus you are free to purchase a credit report from the site. For a small fee, Credit.com can give you a copy of your credit report for $35. There is no way to change your credit report. It is a snapshot of your credit report at the time that it was printed. Use the report to make decisions that affect your credit score and make sure it is accurate. If you believe it to be inaccurate, you may dispute the accuracy. You may also request a copy of the disputed report from the credit reporting agency.

Once you have been denied credit, you can dispute the denial in writing, or you can dispute the denial in writing and mail a copy to the credit reporting agency. This dispute must be in writing and signed by you and the credit reporting agency. You must provide the following:

Your name

Your current and new mailing addresses

The full name of the credit reporting agency that denied the credit report. If the credit reporting agency is a private report agency, it will not be listed. A statement that you are the person who is having the disputed credit report disputed. If you want the dispute to be posted on the credit reporting agency’s Web site, list the information below: The reason you believe the dispute is incorrect. Your signature You mailing address If you would like to dispute your credit report, you can file a dispute with the credit reporting agency, if you are a U.S. citizen or have had a residence outside the United States for three (3) of the five years before the credit report was compiled.

How Do I Dispute a Credit Report?

There are two ways to dispute your credit report:

Online Dispute Form: Contact the credit reporting agency with your dispute and the contact information that appears on the credit report, or

  1. As a creative consultant/copywriter, I couldn’t agree more. Spec work is pernicious and a real threat to our business (even for big agencies). I will not participate in a pitch where spec is involved. I’m sure I’ve lost business because of it, but at least I’m not giving my work away for free.

BTW, I’m going to Le Diplomate (DC) tomorrow night (for my birthday!). Love the menus. Look forward to the food.

    • Thanks for your comment Susan! And yes, I totally agree – it is pretty ridiculous. Personally and professionally, I’m not going to work for any client that requires any form of spec work. It starts the relationship out on a bad foot, and can only get worse.

I had a client once that used to say this about negotiations: no matter what side of the table you’re on, you want everyone to come away feeling like they got a good deal. If one person feels like they “won” the negotiation, that only means that the other person “lost” – and nothing good ever came from someone losing a negotiation. If everyone comes away happy, both sides will enjoy the working relationship.

  2. I’m so amazed at how people just don’t get it. People have asked me for designs without paying for them. Thankfully I have the strength of my convictions to say no. I don’t even THINK about a project for a deposit is paid!
